Quebec, July 2006

July 8 - 15th 2006

Mom and I flew to Quebec to visit with Steve and his wife Ginette and my niece Gabrielle. We had an excellent time. I kept a very short accounting of what we did each day so I'll start there and flesh it out as I go. :) That's what happens when you leave things for four years!

I left my car at Mom's and I think Willy took us to the airport. We had nice seats and the flight was good. I got pictures going over the Rockies. Stephen was there at Laval Airport to pick us up. Ginette was working so we travelled up to St. Jovite and went for dinner at Mikes and went to IGA and did a bit of grocery shopping.

We went to Steve's place which is outside of St. Jovite at a nice little lake called Little Green Lake with most of the neighbours being English speaking. We met Ginette's son, Philipe, who is staying with them for the moment. Very nice guy and was very helpful with translation as his mom doesn't speak a lot of English. Steve and I went out for a cruise in the canoe. It was wonderful.

Steve's house is a beautiful. All golden wood inside. Four bedrooms. Porch around 2 sides. Really really nice.

Sunday - We had a quiet morning and then went to Ste. Margarite to Anick's place to pick up Gabrielle. Anick has a very cute little house and she had friends over working on a deck on the back. It will be great! Ginette had to work so we headed on back to Steve's and spent some time in the sunshine and playing in the lake.

Monday - We got a slow start to the day and then went up to Mt. Trembant. Steve & Ginette and Mom, Gabrielle and I. We went and saw Steve's hotel (Fairmont) and visited with some of his co-workers. The town reminds me quite a bit of Whistler. Nice to wander through and check out all the little stores. We went to Build a Bear and got Gabrielle a bear.

It is Steve and Philipe's birthday tomorrow and so we stopped in St. Jovite on the way back and picked up stuff for dinner. Ginette made a nice big lobster and prawn dinner and everyone enjoyed it very much.

Tuesday - Happy Birthday Steve & Philipe!! We had a nice birthday lunch before Ginette had to leave for work. We went into St. Jovite and walked around the town and visited some of the stores. Back to the lake for a swim and then to bed fairly early as we were heading out the next morning for Ottawa.

July 12, 2006

Wednesday - We were up and gone by 9AM for Ottawa. We took our time and checked into the Chateau Laurier around 12:30 and had room service for lunch. Then we headed out. We walked around the area close to the hotel and then decided to take a bus tour to see all the sights around Ottawa. It was well worth it. Our tour guide was excellent and funny. We got to see all the tourist areas that we probably wouldn't have found half of if left to our own devices.

Then we walked around the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Cenotaff and back to the hotel for a bit of a rest. We went and had a drink at Zoies Lounge in the hotel and then decided to walk over and around the Parliament Buildings and have a look at the locks on the way by. The locks were very intresting to watch and as luck would have it, there was a boat going through.

From there we took a walk around the grounds of Parliament. Beautiful buildings. Great view! We found the cattery and got some pictures of that too. Then back to the hotel and off to dinner at the Fish Market in the Byward Market. Lots to see and the food was great. By then we were exhausted and headed back to the hotel and an early night.

July 13th

Thursday - I was up early, showered and headed to Byward Market before anyone else was up. I wandered up and down and looked at all the booths. I was nice to stroll along in the coolness of the morning and watch the crowds starting their day. I got back to the hotel and got packed up while Steve and Gabrielle went for a swim. We left Ottawa through Gatineau and on our way back we stopped at Montebello and took a quick walk through the hotel. It is a Fairmont (same as Mt. Trembant where Steve works and Chateau Laurier. The Vancouver Hotel is a Fairmont as is the Empress in Victoria) and has a long history.

We stopped in Buckingham for lunch on the way back and I had POUTINE!! And it was delicious! Then home to first St. Jovite to do some grocery shopping and then out to Steve's place at Green Lake.

July 14, 2006

Friday - We spent a quiet day at home at the lake, swimming and snacking and resting. Ginette had to work at 3pm and the rest of us had a quiet dinner and pleasant evening. We packed and did all our last minute visiting. :)

July 15, 2006

Saturday - Stephen and Gabrielle took us to the airport. I'm glad we got to meet and spend time with Philipe, he was a very nice guy and very helpful to us. We were sad to leave Steve and Gabrielle but we sure had a great time.

On to the plane and home. Nice and clear all the way home. Willy picked us up at the airport and I had left the car at Mom's. Got home and picked up Lacey from Judes! I was so happy to see her little face. Nemo was at home with Ryan and all was good there. Ahhhh Home Sweet Home.........
